Victoria Silas, MD

I like to tell the story of becoming a doctor as one long teenage rebellion against my artistic, hippy parents who just wanted me to be a nice chiropractor with some homeopathic remedies on the side.

My love of science intersected with my desire to help ease suffering on a personal level in the world.

I went to medical school thinking I would pursue psychiatry or neurology, because I was fascinated by the pathology I’d read about in books, but it was the beauty of anatomy and the possibility of immediate gratification that drew me to surgery.

A chance elective rotation on orthopedics showed me the beauty of muscles, nerves, bones and healthy fear of arteries that has never diminished over time. I went into orthopedics because I enjoyed the satisfaction of putting things back together, of restoring function and then watching people heal.

During my medical career, I struggled with the way to create balance between the demands of work and the need for an actual life. Coaching helped me realize that a large degree of my misery was self inflicted by my own thoughts, and therefore under my control.

Realizing that my dissatisfaction with medicine was actually manufactured by my own beliefs, was revolutionary for me when I discovered coaching.

This knowledge of the mind’s role in our experiences harkened back to my early days of pursuing medicine. Throughout my career, I remained fascinated by the working of the mind and the nervous system, which first drew me to medicine. I realized it was time to move on to a different role in facilitating healing.

In my spare time, I like to learn, travel, listen to music, and walk down country roads or out in nature with my camera.

Are you ready to experience more satisfaction, more freedom, and to live a deeper life?
