Breaking Patterns

I broke a pattern today. Nothing big, just did something I don’t usually do.

I joined a Facebook group associated with an online course I bought to help me with my website. Now, usually, when I join a new group, I lurk. Like for a long time. Or forever.

That’s especially with something like this, where I purchased a course about a subject I really know nothing about. Normally, I would never ask questions without doing the reading or going through the course and then see if I can figure it out before asking anyone for help.

You know, learn the lesson’s teaching first so I don’t look stupid. Or ill-prepared.

But perhaps because the topic is so far out of anything I worked on before, and because this question has been driving me nuts because I can’t fix it,

I. ASKED. A. QUESTION. After being in the group for a measly 24 hours. And I got answers. And no one laughed at me or derided me (well maybe they did in front of their own screen, but then I didn’t see it, so basically it didn’t exist.)

I did not follow my usual rules for how I publicly behave. And I got different results from what I usually get. The suggestions I received actually solved my problem and I am no longer frustrated. And, maybe, more importantly, I did something different today.
